Job Description:
Responsible for the detailed design and engineering of new network elements and expansions. Prepares plans for integration into the existing network. Develops detailed engineering design packages (EDP’s) for work related to a given switching location. Providing tiered support to other technical team members during implementation.
Network elements included in scope of responsibility could include: Alcatel MSS/MGW, Nokia RNC, Nortel MSC, Ericsson MSC, Nortel BSC, Ericsson BSC, and Nokia BSC.
Determines system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system.
Minimum Required Skills / Competencies:
-4-7 years experience in network engineering, with at least 2-3 years in wireless telecommunications
-BA/BS in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science and or equivalent related job experience.
-Advanced Knowledge of various vendors equipment, such as Nortel, Nokia, Ericsson, or Alcatel. Is considered an SME in multiple functional areas (2G NSS/BSS, 3G NSS/RAN).
-GSM knowledge and/or experience
-Knowledge of data communications, protocols and technologies such as: TDM, ATM, Frame Relay, SS-7, TCP/IP, X.25, SONET and VoIP.
-Ability to interpret topography, network design maps and CAD Designs
-Ability to analyze and interpret detailed technical documentation and implement into the network in an efficient manner.
-Working knowledge of client TCP/IP protocol
-Strong personal computer skills required including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office.
-Working knowledge of MapInfo, Visio and Granite provisioning software.
-Must have good oral and written communication skills.
-Must have good time management skills
-Must have good understanding of a GSM & UMTS wireless network and its components
-Basic understanding of network element capacity forecast models related to high level planning and design is required.
-Must be able to work well under pressure
-Must have a solid foundation in electronics theory
-Must be able to work flexible hours and overtime when required
-Good working knowledge of databases required.
